Service Description

A major aspect of the role of clinical supervisors is socializing clinicians into the profession and ensuring they are skilled in practicing ethically, while engaging in ethical decision-making when dilemmas arise. Additionally, those supervising clinicians toward independent licensure bear vicarious responsibility for the work of those clinicians. Attending to signs of malpractice or ethical violations in supervision is an important way for supervisors to ensure they are engaged in preventing harm to clients. This course, co-sponsored with the PSCSW will provide information about the most recent scholarship and discourse around ethics in clinical supervision, as well as strategies for managing vicarious liability. Participants will have opportunities to engage in critical thinking around engaging in cultural humility and fostering this practice in their supervisees, as well as working through and teaching ethical decision-making practices. We will also discuss documentation for ethical practice purposes and the management of risk. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Describe managing liability in supervision practice. 2. Explain how to support and ensure ethical practice of supervisees.. 3. Identify strategies for ethical decision making. 4.
